Best Baby Name Ever? “Facebook”

An Egyptian man wanted to pay homage to the role that Facebook played in the revolution in his country by naming his daughter "Facebook"

To some this might seem a bit odd or even bizarre, but I applaud the man for acknowledging the significant role that the social media giant played in spreading democracy to the Middle East.

A greater symbol of the interconnectivity of our world has never been more profoundly epitomized. The man obviously took time to consider more traditional names, but decided that the legacy he wished to bestow upon his newborn daughter was for her to symbolize the dream of unity and change.

Egyptian dictator Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak was in power from 1981 until February 11, 2011, when he finally stepped down after 18 days of revolutionary protests.
Facebook was instrumental in ending the Mubarak’s dictatorship in Egypt. They unified the voices of all Egyptians and brought them together in an effort to spread the dream of change to the country.

Facebook has become a symbol of freedom in the Middle East and continues to spearhead all social media efforts that were used in organizing the revolution. I applaud the efforts of Facebook and think that the rest of the world shares the same amount of gratitude to them for their efforts.

It is my sincere hope that the Facebook legacy will continue for many years and that they will continue to shine as a beacon of light to a world craving democracy and change.
It is my sincere belief that Facebook will continue to play the role of benefactor in the Middle East and to the rest of the world by granting the ability to communicate thoughts and ideologies freely without fear of reprisal.
