Social Media on Knowledge Graph- Learn How to ADD Here

T2
Social media has made a win this week in search. Google has added social media profiles to the knowledge graph and I think of it as a win. I look for trust signals when I shop the web and my first place I look for that signal is social media. Not all places link their social media sites to their homepage, so often I’m left to search for it myself. Usually if I end up having to do that I give up.

With social profiles showing up on the knowledge graph those platforms will be right in front of me offering more marketing opportunity to be presented.

I’m excited because I have been preaching the importance of social media in digital business and now Google reinforces my intentions. I don’t think social media will be leaving us anytime soon.
So let’s get to the goods! You are probably already on board with me and want to know how toad the profiles to your own mark up. It’s actually very simple and it begins with Schema.

I’ve mentioned before how important Schema is in today’s search. Not everybody does it but it is highly recognized by all search engines. If you have it then you will be the top cards shuffled to the search client before anybody else.

Here is the raw markup code for you to add your own social info in. Now go get it set up!!

<span itemscope itemtype=”http://schema.org/Organization”>
<link itemprop=”url” href=”ADD COMPANY URL “>
<a itemprop=”sameAs” href=”ADD FACEBOOK URL “>Facebook</a>
<a itemprop=”sameAs” href=”ADD TWITTER URL “>Twitter</a>
<a itemprop=”sameAs” href=”ADD GOOGLE PLUS URL “>Google+</a>
</span>

Google has mentioned that only up to seven profiles can be added. This is fair enough since its limited space in the knowledge graph but you also don’t want to throw up your social platforms that are neglected.

Test your structured data with the Google’s Testing Tool here.
